Have you heard? It’s Summer! You know how we know? Because the first issue of 149 Review just dropped! It has been a long journey to get our first issue, but we are so proud and excited for you readers to get to experience this stunning collection of poetry and CNF that has been lovingly molded into our first edition. There were many people involved in the creation of this journal, and our thanks go out to all of them. Be it editors, contributors, or readers, we have been truly blessed with all of your support. We also want to send special congratulations to our two prize winners, Shauri Cherie with her poem “Thoughts on Stargazing While Viewing Starry Night Over the Rhône” and Jayden Vera with her essay “The House Listens.” Please go and read the new issue, it is filled with wonderful new works you are sure to enjoy. Let the words flow over you, sink into your skin, bite you in places you hadn’t expected.

In other magazine news, we have something exciting to announce. Over the summer we will be moving from email submissions to Submission Manager! This will mean a few key changes. First, our poetry reading period is being shifted back a month to accommodate the time it takes our silly writing brains to figure out the technical side of the move. Our new dates for poetry will be August 1st-October 31st. Secondly, we will continue to take email submissions for CNF and visual art up until we complete the change. At that time we will change the submission page to properly redirect you to the new system and we will put out an announcement to let you all know.

We also want to mention that our new podcast, The 149 Review Submission Podcast, has released its second episode with a third soon to come. Each episode our editors will be interviewing some of the most interesting writers and editors in the world to see what they might be able to tell us about the craft writing and making submissions. Whether you are new to submitting your writing or you are just curious about how others think through submissions, go check it out on Spotify at https://open.spotify.com/show/01Q9N0p6qEcWN0vdDmszCp.

Beyond this, our whole team at 149 Review has had an incredibly busy start to the year, and we want to show our support for all the effort they are putting into bringing their work to the world. During our first submission period, our team has been published or is forthcoming in 45th Parallel, Allium, Atlanta Review, The Broken Plate, Colorado Review, Exposed Bone, Hunger Mountain, Rust & Moth, The Shore, storysouth, Poetry South, Sugar House Review, and more. We’ve also had several editors commit to master’s programs and our Managing Editor Ben Cooper has won the 2025 AWP Intro Journals Award for his poem “Exile.” We are so proud of our team, and we are happy to share their successes with you, our readers. After all, getting your work out in the world will always be one of the most beautiful things a writer can do, so keep up the good work and keep submitting!

For the love of craft,

Donald Pasmore, Editor-in-Chief
Ben Cooper, Managing-Editor
